The Rotary Club of Salem has long been a driving force for positive change in our community and beyond. Rooted in Rotary International’s mission of service, integrity, and goodwill, we believe that peacebuilding is fundamental to a thriving society.
But peace is not just the absence of war—it is about creating environments where people feel safe, valued, and empowered. Through education, service, and collaboration, our club actively supports peace initiatives both locally and globally, strengthening our community and advancing Rotary’s vision for a better world.
Along with others around the world, our club is designated as a Peacebuilder Club because our members are engaged in and support many projects that promote dialogue, support refugees, and reduce violence in many ways including:
- Rotary Peace Fellowships: Our club has sponsored outstanding individuals to pursue master’s degrees and professional certificates in peace and conflict resolution at one of six Rotary Peace Centers worldwide. These fellows go on to become global leaders in diplomacy, conflict mediation, and humanitarian efforts.
- Salem Refugees: We have provided funding and support to help refugees resettle in Salem, offering them a foundation for stability and inclusion.
- Global & Community Service Projects: Through various service initiatives, we foster dialogue, unity, and understanding both locally and internationally.
- Rotary Youth Exchange Program: We are currently hosting two inbound and outbound students, providing them with life-changing experiences that cultivate global awareness, diplomacy, and intercultural friendships. Our club has been involved for many decades in this important program.
- Youth Leadership Program: Our commitment to youth extends to leadership programs like RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) equipping young leaders with the tools to resolve conflict, foster inclusion, and drive positive change. You’ll learn more about this program at our meeting on February 26.
Together, as Rotarians and as a community, we are contributing to a more peaceful world—starting right here in Salem.
