April 16th – Nursing Workforce Shortage, Anna Hilts

The healthcare industry faces a critical shortage of nurses and other professionals, a challenge that has only intensified since the pandemic. To address this issue at the local level, Willamette Valley Medical Center, in partnership with McMinnville Economic Development Partnership and others, has launched innovative programs to strengthen the regional workforce. These include an LPN-to-RN apprenticeship program, a 12-month Nurse Residency program, and

a paid internship program designed to cultivate professionals in other areas of healthcare

Learn from Anna Hilts, BSN, RN, as she showcases these transformative initiatives and discusses their profound impact on the local community.

Program Chair – Cyndi Cyphers

Meeting Location: Grant Room, Broadway Commons – 2nd Floor

President’s Message

Why Is the Rotary Logo a Wheel?

Have you ever wondered why the Rotary logo is a wheel?

The wheel has been a symbol of Rotary since the organization’s earliest days. When Paul Harris founded Rotary in Chicago in 1905, it began as a fellowship of professionals who met in rotation at each other’s offices—hence the name “Rotary.”

The first emblem was created by a Chicago Rotarian who happened to be an engraver. He sketched a simple wagon wheel to represent “civilization and movement,” reflecting both the forward momentum of the organization and the rotating nature of its meetings.

In Rotary’s early years, clubs used different variations of the wheel on their publications and stationery. But in 1922, Rotary International decided to unify the brand with a single, official design. The following year, in 1923, Rotary adopted the gearwheel we recognize today. This emblem symbolizes not only motion, but also strength, innovation, and service in action.

I’ll be attending a conference this Wednesday, so Past President Tammy Denee has kindly agreed to step in on my behalf.

Once again, sandwiches, wraps and chips will be available for purchase. Based on last week’s sales and the show of hands from those who enjoyed them, we’ll stick with the same order.
