December 11th – Schirle Middle School Choir Performance

On December 11 the Rotary Program will feature the Schirle Elementary School Choir Directed by their teacher – Kenda Peterson. Kenda is a master General Music Teacher and also an excellent pianist. They will present a holiday concert for our Rotary Club.

The 45 member Schirle choir of 4th and 5th grade students, are one of the best elementary school choirs in the Salem-Keizer School District and State. The program will take place in Cedar Hall – which is directly behind the Broadway Commons and in the same building as the Salem Alliance Church Sanctuary.

Come and support these outstanding students who have prepared and given up part of their school day to present this concert for you. You will enjoy their presentation.

Please thank the Salem Alliance Church and staff for our use of use of Cedar Hall and setting up the hall without any cost to the Rotary.

President’s Message

Music Programs are Powerful

Music has an extraordinary power to connect, inspire, and heal, and we are fortunate to have talented musicians among our Rotarians, including Karl RaschkesLinda Bednarz, and Deb Patterson. Each year, Karl chairs programs that showcase gifted students who share their musical talents with us in many beautiful forms. On December 11, we’ll have the pleasure of hearing from one of these incredible groups—a highlight not to be missed.

Rotary International recognizes the profound impact music has on individuals and communities. Across the globe, Rotary integrates musical initiatives into its service projects, using music as a tool to promote fellowship, healing, and connection.

The International Fellowship of Rotarian Musicians (IFRM) unites Rotarians, their families, and friends who share a deep passion for music. This fellowship encourages musical expression at Rotary events and supports community music programs. IFRM fosters global connections and strengthens bonds through shared musical experiences.

The Rotary International Orchestra, established in 1987, unites musicians from across the globe to perform at Rotary events. These performances celebrate cultural diversity, promote international understanding, and showcase the unifying power of music.

As one of my favorite musicians Billy Joel so eloquently said:

“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”
