June 18th – Rylie Tiffin – Peace Corps in Panama

Rylie will be sharing with us her experiences as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Panama. The Peace Corps Panama Youth Health and Wellbeing program focuses entirely on the Comarca Ngäbe Buglé, a semi-autonomous indigenous region in Panama. In this region, the leading cause of death for people under 30 is HIV, with stigma likened to that of the United States more than 40 years ago.

This program’s work focuses on educating adults and youth about HIV prevention and increasing access to testing and treatment. Volunteers do this work while living among a community, building close relationships and integrating deeply into the everyday routines of their new families.

Rylie will be sharing with us about the culture of these beautiful people, what her day-to-day life looks like, and a snippet of the work she gets to do.

Program Chair – Sue Bloom

Meeting Location: Cedar Hall, Main Salem Alliance Building

President’s Message

Important Update from Rotary International

Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick recently shared significant news with our global membership: President-Elect Mário de Camargo has decided to step down and will not assume the role of Rotary International President for the 2025–26 Rotary year.

In a heartfelt letter to President Urchick, Mário cited personal and professional reasons that have led to his decision to resign. He also conveyed his deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve Rotary and the honor of being nominated, noting the immense pride it brought to Rotarians in Brazil.

President Urchick expressed her profound appreciation for Mário’s remarkable 45 years of leadership and service to Rotary. She also acknowledged the impact of his nomination on Rotary members across Brazil and beyond.

The Rotary International Board of Directors will convene soon to determine the process for selecting a new President for the 2025–26 term.

On behalf of the Rotary family, President Urchick thanked Mário for his dedication, especially over the past 20 months, and extended her warmest wishes for his future endeavors.
