Capaces Leadership Institute is a social justice education organization whose mission is to strengthen the wellness, capacity, and political consciousness of leaders, organizations, movements, and communities to eliminate social disparities. Capace’s programs primarily serve low-income Latina/o/x, Indigenous, and Afro-descendant immigrant and farmworker families in the Mid-Willamette Valley.

 

The Anahuac Program has been housed in Capaces Leadership Institute since 2019 as a community-centered program that offers traditional education in agriculture, culinary and cultural arts, wellness, and Indigenous languages. Rooted in ancestral values, Anahuac Farm unifies our Indigenous communities of America, in the dominant culture known as farmworkers.

 

Through a new partnership with Salem-Keizer Public Schools, Anahuac Farm is providing an after-school program for students attending Title I middle schools, giving students an opportunity for hands-on, experiential learning that connects students to their ancestral cultures and traditions. The folks at Anahuac Farms developed an extensive curriculum in order to provide lessons to our youth with the goal of reclaiming Indigenous ancestral culture, traditions, knowledge, and values.
