August 30th: Kevin Cameron, Marion County Board of Commissioners
Kevin Cameron was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in June 2014, elected to his first term in November 2014, and re-elected in 2018 and 2022. Commissioner Cameron represents Marion County on the Marion County Budget Committee, the Marion County Extension & 4-H Service District, Oregon State Fair & Expo Council, and others.
Prior to being elected to the Marion County Board of Commissioners, Commissioner Cameron served in the Oregon House of Representatives representing the residents of House District 19.
Commissioner Cameron will present updates on projects and programs for the county, including:
- ARPA Projects and Economic Development like the Brooks-Hopmere water infrastructure and Detroit Lake Marina excavation
- The Santiam Canyon Recovery and reopening of the North Fork
- The Aurora-Donald Interchange Project
- Youth Wage Grant Program for employers

Greetings, Fellow Rotarians!
Has Your Summer Reading Transformed You? (Part I)
As our summer transitions into early fall, it’s not a bad time to ask ourselves how we’ve been transformed over the last few months. I confess that I begin each summer with an ambitious stack of books, excited at the prospect of hours of reading time! Obviously that childlike glee soon gives way to the reality of life.
That said, even this busy summer allowed for a little reading. I’m currently working my way through Paul Harris’ autobiography, “My Road to Rotary.” Transformative? Yes! I am loving the opportunity to get inside his head, because I’m still in awe. How could one man start with an idea 118 years ago that persists to this day and thrives on a global scale?
The answer is two-fold. As was common in visionary leaders of his generation, Paul was profoundly affected by his earliest experiences and the choices of the grownups arounds him – both good and bad. He was driven by an internal compass and a desire to recreate in Chicago the sense of community he remembered from his rural Iowa boyhood.
The second component involves the hard work and vision of millions of Rotarians since the club’s inception in 1905 – and all of us. We are also driven both by a desire for connectedness and by a vision of creating a better world. Thank you SO much for all you do each and every day to accomplish this vision!
I’m so excited we will welcome Marion County Commissioner Kevin Cameron to our August 30 meeting! Thank you, Past President Tammy Dennee for being the Program Chair, and to Past President David Deckelman for filling in for me while I’m out of state. I’m sorry to have to miss it but look forward to seeing you the following week!
