A Great Vision for a New Year!
Greetings, Fellow Rotarians!
I hope the holidays were good to you! This time of year it can be exciting to think of a whole new year ahead! What shall we do with the precious time & opportunities given to us?
For our Rotary Club of Salem, we will continue to focus on three main goals that emerged during our Board’s strategic planning session last summer: attracting and welcoming new members, robustly supporting our current members, and increasing our weekly meeting attendance, which is one visible indicator of our engagement. These priorities are 100% in line with Rotary International’s Action Plan (https://my.rotary.org/en/who-we-are/about-rotary/action-plan) which I’d encourage you to view. Promoting and supporting our membership engagement will drive forward all of the strategic actions we work toward, both locally and internationally.
I’m so excited for our program this week in which we will welcome longtime Rotarian Ida Lafky who will share with us the vision of RYLA, which is an incredibly important leadership training opportunity for our younger members. Thank you in advance, Ida, for sharing your passion re: RYLA with us!
I was recently inspired by a quote I found in The Rotary Book of Readings (©2019, The Rotary Club of Hobart): “The problems we face today – violent conflicts, destruction of nature, poverty, hunger, and so on – are human created problems which can be resolved through human effort, understanding, and a development of a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood. We need to cultivate a universal responsibility for one another and the planet we share.” (The 14th Dalai Lama). What better pathway than Rotary?!
