April 3rd – Panel Discussion – Recent Oregon State Legislative Session

Significant legislation passed through the recently concluded Oregon legislative session. Three of our fellow Rotarians who are professional lobbyists will share their views on the session, commenting not only on the major issues but also on legislation that, while important to some, did not garner big headlines. Come listen as Tammy Dennee, Dale Penn II and Ozzie Rose provide an inside look at the legislative process.

Program Chair: John McCulley

Meeting Location: Willamette Heritage Center – Dye House

President’s Message

Leadership for the Whole State

Greetings, fellow Rotarians! I hope this note finds you well!

I’m so grateful for last week’s program which really highlighted the problem of food insecurity in our community, and grateful for all those who work tirelessly to help others have a better life. As we said at the end, the magnitude of issues causing suffering can be overwhelming. Thankfully, we live in a community well-served by a network of strong nonprofit organizations. There is no wrong door: any cause you choose to support (in addition to the Salem Rotary Foundation ) will make a difference and be part of the overall solution!

This week we will shift our attention to learn about the results of the 2024 Oregon Legislative session. Make no mistake: leading as an elected official demanding at the best of times and exhausting at the worst of times. Special thanks to all Rotarians in our club who serve either as an elected official or an advocate. You play an important role in shaping public policy so that things can work for the benefit of all Oregonians. As Rotarians, we are uniquely positioned to find common ground and help those who live in our state achieve their potential. I look forward to seeing you Wednesday!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Kindly,

President Alison Kelley
