December 6th: Judson Middle School Choir

On December 6, our Program will feature a performance by the Judson Middle School Choir under the direction of their Teacher – David Loney. There are several levels of Choirs at Judson.  You will be listening to the advanced concert choir – which has a long history and reputation of excellence. You need to come in person to fully appreciate the quality of their singing, as listening on a video will not sufficiently reflect the actual live performance. Please come and support these outstanding young vocalists.

Karl Raschkes, former Supervisor of the Salem-Keizer SD Music and Performing Arts will be hosting this event.

Program Chair: Karl Raschkes

Meeting Location: Willamette Heritage Center – Dye House

President’s Message

Celebrating Our Youth!

This Wednesday, Dec. 6 we will welcome the Judson Middle School Choir. I’m SO excited for their performance!! I just love it when we get to host students! The robust support of music education in the Salem-Keizer School District is legendary and with two Grammy awards to our credit, a very worthwhile investment. Choir – singing – is something every student can do because they don’t have to pay money to rent or buy an instrument. In that way, the dual benefit of discovering their own hidden talent and being able to participate even if there isn’t a lot of extra money in their family is just golden – and a way to achieve equity in education.

Our Rotary founder, Paul Harris, was very partial to youth and even ensured all neighboring youth could freely sled down his big snowy hill! On a more serious note, as former UN Secretary-General Kofi-Annan said, “There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives are free from fear and want and that they grow up in peace.” (Rotary Book of Readings, 91.)   I couldn’t agree more!

Let’s show our Judson Middle School Choir how important they are to us this Wednesday by showing up, smiling, and clapping heartily for them.

Special thanks to Program Chair Karl Raschkes for his hard work in arranging for this performance!
