January 18: Sparrow Furniture – Building Furniture and Futures for Salem Refugees
Go into Issacs’ Coffee House Downtown and you will see the handiwork of Sparrow Furniture and the Refugees they employ! But furniture is not the only thing being made at Sparrow Furniture. Sparrow Furniture empowers refugees by providing paid apprenticeship and language classes in a custom woodworking business. In addition to language skills, Sparrow teaches employment norms and rules. They explain paychecks (what is FICA??), how to pay bills and so much more. Join us on January 18 and hear Thomas Berney talk about the refugees that Sparrow Furniture is helping and see some of their amazing work.
