June 11th – ODOT Budget, Funding and Legislative Issues with Travis Brouwer

Across the country, transportation agencies are struggling with growing costs to address congestion, maintain aging roads and bridges, and make roads safe for all users in the face of a surge in crashes. At the same time, the largest single funding source for the nation’s roads—the gas tax—is going into decline as vehicles become more fuel efficient. Travis Brouwer, ODOT’s Assistant Director for Revenue and Finance, will talk about how Oregon is responding to these challenges, including work in the Oregon Legislature on a proposal to reinvest in state and local roads.

Program Chair – Tammy Dennee

Meeting Location: Cedar Hall, Main Salem Alliance Building

President’s Message

Greeting from beautiful Sisters, Oregon!

We’ve just arrived here after spending several memorable days in Florence, sightseeing with family visiting from England. Experiencing Oregon through their eyes has been a gift—it reminds me of the incredible beauty we sometimes take for granted. After more than two decades living in California, it’s refreshing to revisit these special places that shaped my early years.

Next Wednesday, I’ll be heading to Kamala, Washington, for a Maps Credit Union Planning Session. On the way, we plan to stop at Mt. St. Helens—a place with deep personal significance. I hiked to the summit on the 10th anniversary of its 1980 eruption. At the time, I lived in the Willamette Valley, but my childhood home in Portland was still standing—and covered in ash from that historic day.

I want to extend a special thank you to Bruce Anderson for stepping in to lead this week’s meeting. It’s hard to believe my year as your president is nearly complete. After today, we have just one more meeting on June 18, and then I’ll pass the gavel to Doug Parham on June 25. I know he’ll bring incredible energy and leadership to our club—I can’t wait to see what’s ahead!

Wishing you all a great week, and I look forward to seeing you at our next gathering on June 18.
