March 15: Farmers Ending Hunger Helps Feed Oregonians

Farmers Ending Hunger is an Oregon nonprofit established in 2005. Its mission is to deliver more high-quality, locally produced food commodities to the Oregon Food Bank network. Since the first donation in the fall of 2006, over 33 million pounds of food commodities have been donated. Executive Director John Burt will share how farmers, ranchers, food processors, the Oregon Food Bank, and the public work together to make this possible.

President’s Message
Rotarians,

We are back at Willamette Heritage Center Dye House this week.

This week we will hear from John Burt, Executive Director of Farmers Ending Hunger. The organization’s mission is to eliminate hunger in Oregon by increasing the amount of high-quality food available to needy local communities through a partnership of farmers, food processors, the Oregon Food Bank, and the public. The program will be chaired by Tammy Dennee.

Speaking of Tammy, Tammy and her husband Michael Dennee, Rus McCraken, and Holly Berry, hosted one of our first experiences, a Fat Tuesday Dinner on Fat Tuesday. We experienced Mardi Gras at Rus McCracken’s house, dining on red beans, rice, gumbo, jambalaya cornbread, pecan praline bars, and of course King Cake. What an excellent time, this club really knows how to have fun.

Thank you, Tammy, Michael, Rus, and Holly, for putting on this great event.

Cheers!
