February 8: Meet the Justice of the Peace
Did you know that the Office of Justice of the Peace was established in 1362 by King Edward III of England? Join us as we hear from Justin Kidd, who is Marion County’s Justice of the Peace. Justin will share a bit about the history of the Justice Court and will talk about what the court addresses.

Rotarians,
This week we will be back at the Willamette Heritage Center, Dye House. Chane Griggs will be chairing a program on the Justice of the Peace. Justin Kidd will be letting us know all about being a Justice of the Peace.
Well, I hope you bought your ticket to the auction. We have closed the ticket sales, but you can still participate by buying a Golden Ticket by Wednesday. Remember the Golden Ticket winner can choose whatever oral auction item they want. Buy your ticket by Wednesday. The odds are only 1 in a hundred tickets to be sold.
Have you heard about the experiences this year? They are all just incredible:
1. Fat Tuesday Dinner
- 12 people at $125 a Spot
- Date/Time: February 21 at 6 pm
- Hosts: Rus McCracken, Holly Berry, Michael & Tammy Dennee
- Description: Who dat? rings out loud and strongly throughout the streets of New Orleans, a city, perhaps best known for Mardi Gras. Celebrate the region at Rus McCracken’s house with this dinner of red beans and rice, gumbo, jambalaya, cornbread, and a dessert of pecan bars and pralines. Of course, there will also be wine and beer.
2. Bocce and Dinner
- 8 people at $125 a Spot
- Date/Time: July 14 at 5 pm
- Hosts: Griggs and Mungers
- Description: We will start with drinks, appetizers, and bocce at Illahe Country Club (no prior bocce experience needed) and then move to Chane and Jim’s home for dinner and dessert.
3. Clip and Sip
- 20 people at $75 a Spot
- Date/Time: July 22 at 2 pm
- Hosts: Deckelmanns, Wine Cellar provided by Fara Etzel
- Description: An afternoon of wine and finger foods served in the Deckelmann’s beautiful yard and flower garden. Attendees will receive a vase so they can wander the garden with their snippers and cut flowers to make a beautiful arrangement to take home. Attendees will also have time to meet Alpacas, Zeb and Cecil, and explore the 100-year-old renovated “entertainment barn” on the historic farm. Cheers!
4. Hood Progressive Dinner
- 8 people at $100 a Spot
- Date/Time: July 28 at 5:30 pm
- Hosts: Fara Etzel, Sam and Beth Rhoades, Holly Berry and Rus McCracken
- Description: The High Street Hood welcomes you to a night of wonderful food and wine as you progress through our neighborhoods. Beginning at Fara’s house for a seasonal cocktail and tapas as we begin an evening of good food and conversation. Wander over to Beth’s house for a delectable summer salad and soup along with wine. We will then finish the evening at Holly’s with a tasty hunk of meat, sides, and of course a bit of wine to finish the night!
5. Italian Pizza Night
- 8 people at $100 a Spot
- Date/Time: August 17 at 6 pm
- Hosts: Lemmans, Mungers, and Jill Tucker.
- Description: Come create your own pizza while sipping on Negronis and enjoying antipasto with a fabulous view from the Lemman’s outdoor patio.
6. Hill Progressive Dinner
- 10 people at $125 a Spot
- Date/Time: August 26 at 6 pm
- Hosts: Cyndi Leinassar and Bill Cyphers, Barry and Heather Nelson, Rus McCracken and Holly Berry.
- Description: The Hill Top Progressive Dinner will include 3 homes in the beautiful Chinook Estates. Signature cocktails, appetizers, mouthwatering grilled dinner with wine, and decadent desserts with bubbles await.
7. Oktoberfest Dinner
- 12 people at $50 a Spot
- Date/Time: September 23 from 5 – 7 pm or when the beer is gone.
- Hosts: John & Julie McCulley
- Description: Traditional German Fare – sausages, potatoes, pretzels, and beer will be shared on this lovely fall evening at the McCulley’s. John will be brewing some fabulous beers to pair with the menu and bring a little bit of Germany to Monmouth.
8. Find Your Inner Chocolatier
- 8 people at $65 a Spot
- Date: November 7 from 6:30-8 pm
- Hosts: Elise Bauman and Amy Church
- Description: We will gather Willamette Valley Kitchen Co for this experience. Here is what to expect: Discover the basics, tips, and tricks on how to hand-dip chocolates in your own kitchen; Learn how to make the creamiest caramel and truffle centers, and leave with the recipes to make them yourself; Take home your very own box of chocolates to share (or not) with others; Nosh on tasty appetizers and sip wine while learning and getting all your questions answered; And of course, we will be taste testing chocolates!
9. Cubanisimo Wine Tasting & Pairing Evening
- 20 people at $80 a Spot
- Date/Time: June 24 at 6 pm
- Hosts: Lulays, Holly Berry & Cubanisimo Vineyards
- Description: Join us for a guided tasting by Mauricio as he shares his love of wine and the Cubanisimo Vineyard. There will be appetizers, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and desserts to accompany this experience as we learn from the brain surgeon himself about his journey from Cuba to making his own wine in the Willamette Valley. It will be a night filled with great Pinot, delicious food, and the best views.
Because we know these experiences are going to be very popular, and we want this to be fair to everyone, we have a couple of rules this year. The doors will open at 6 pm. You can view all the experiences from 6-6:20 pm. At 6:20 you will be able to sign up for the experiences. So, I would suggest coming right at 6 pm.
