September 24th Salem Rotary Foundation – 2024-25 annual report

This week our program will focus on the good works of our foundation in the past year. We will hear from several grant recipients on the impact of our grants on their lives and our community. We will also be recognizing some donors and talking about the various ways members can support our foundation. Copies of our annual report will also be distributed.

Program Chair – Elise Bauman

Meeting Location: Cedar Hall, Main Salem Alliance Building

President’s Message

Get Involved: Multiple Ways to Unite for Good with Salem Rotary

Our club has a lot going on right now. Look around and find ways to become involved in one or more Rotary activities:

  • Contact Alicia Bay if you would like to help with a “Hands On” project
  • Contact Lauren Gutierrez if you know a prospective new member for our club.
  • Contact Beth Rhoades if you know of a local non-profit organization who needs a grant application for a large grant
  • Contact Wayne Frey if you would like to help him with weekly meeting set up and tear down
  • Contact Elise Bauman or any member of the Program Committee if you have an idea for a future program
  • Contact Linda Bednarz if you are musically inclined and would like to share that talent prior to a weekly meeting
  • Contact Pat Force if you would like to get involved with the World Community Service committee and learn about Rotary involvement globally
  • Contact Tammy Dennee if you would like to be responsible for the traveling mic during a weekly meeting
  • Committee work in Rotary is the life blood of our club; ask a committee chair how you can help, how you can get involved, how you can be active in Rotary, how you can Unite For Good with other Rotarians.

This week wraps up the month of September and the focus toward our own Salem Rotary Foundation – the charitable heart of our club. Get your bell ringer written up and submitted using the link provided in this publication.

I will not be at this week’s meeting, but past-president John Shirley will lead the meeting. We will hear from a student of the month from North Salem HS – this year’s ASB president. I believe Lana McCoy will attend the meeting as the representative from the Student of the Month committee. North Salem HS Principal, Dustin Purnell will likely be the student chaperone and we look forward to his introductory remarks.

Since August 15 and through October 8 our Good Works Large Grants committee has been receiving applications. The projects should conclude by June 30, 2027 and the grant awards will range from $5,000 to $30,000. During 2024-25 we awarded four grants to local non-profit organizations. The total awarded was $50,000. We look forward to learning about the non-profit organization projects that will benefit from our financial support. These projects will be long-term projects that will have long lasting impact in our community and benefit youth.

Be sure to order your lunch from Little Lois Cafe or Better Than Mamas. Come to the meeting ready to hear how we UNITE FOR GOOD in the Salem community. We will hear from several 2024-25 grant recipients with details about how our grant award enabled them to broaden their service impact toward youth.
