Thank you to all the members of Rotary Club of Salem who are using your creativity, connections and commitment to produce some amazing auction items. Our Club’s major fundraiser will take place on the Saturday evening before Valentine’s Day, February 13, 2016. These auction items include one-of-a-kind products and experiences that draw upon the special talents and resources of our members and friends.
I thought it would be fun to get a little friendly competition going to help procure items for the silent auction. “The Great Package Race” is hereby launched! Four teams will be formed, each one focused on a seasonal theme: Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter. Each team will put together items for a package to be sold at the silent auction. Carol Green, a former Rotarian and longtime supporter of our Club, will create four handmade tote bags following the seasonal themes. The teams can use these bags as a starting point for their package.
We’ll have each team show off their creations at our first Rotary meeting of 2016. Then, the winning team will be the highest bid of the four packages on the night of our event.   I’ll award a dinner gift certificate as a prize. Interested in forming a team? “Winter” is already taken. But email me if you want to be the Team Leader for Spring, Summer, or Autumn…
Seems like drones are in the news almost daily – drones invade White House air space; drones aid firefighters; man threatens to shoot down neighbor’s drone; drones may deliver packages; drones pose threat to aircraft; and the list goes on.
This week, we will learn about the latest developments in this fascinating technology from Brian Whiteside of Corvallis. Brian’s company, VDOS Global, provides services to the UAV industry worldwide. In addition, Brian is the Cascade Chapter President of the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.
