Message from President Sue
Greetings!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend and didn’t suffer too much from the heat.

Like many of you, my daily work is a mix of administrative and technical work, as well as a myriad of meetings with folks within my organization as well as stakeholders throughout the community (I get added bonus of helping our kids with life skills like sewing on buttons and threading a needle, to being prepared for a job interview, to making ‘cootie catchers’ and giggling with my youngest kids at our Clubs).

Pre-COVID, all meetings were in person; some were conversational and dynamic; others were more structured. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed my time being present with people inside and outside my organization to affect positive change for the youth I serve and our community.

In the midst of COVID I am having the same meetings-even more meetings to strategize the unknown-except 95% of them are via my computer screen-Zoom. At the end of busy Zoom days/ low in-person days I often find myself exhausted-I thought it was my short coming, but recently found this article that Zoom fatigue (Zoom apnea) is really a thing!  I believe everyone that uses electronic devices will find this beneficial.

In line with this, I’ve been thinking about how we can mix up and reenergize our weekly Rotary Zoom meetings.
As a start, in the coming weeks we’re going to play with a few things to see what works:
  • Try chat rooms pre-meeting to have fellowship and our ‘virtual lunch tables’
  • While announcements and guests are limited at this time, we can switch to fun and informative member highlights, similar to what the Red Badge committee is doing-a great job of interviewing our newest members.
We’re open to ideas! Your board and committees are committed to making your commitment to Rotary valuable and enjoyable in these unprecedented times and. So let us know!
