August 31: Salem Community Investment Bond Proposal
This week’s program features City Councilors Chris Hoy and Vanessa Nordyke presenting information on a proposed City of Salem Community Investment Bond which was referred to voters for the November 2022 General Election. If passed, the measure would fund a ten-year plan including street upgrades, sidewalk construction, and repair, construction of bicycle facilities, replacement of old fire engines and equipment, updating information technology and cybersecurity tools, acquiring property for and construction of two future fire stations, affordable housing and two branch libraries; and earthquake safety upgrades to the Civic Center.

President’s Message
Rotarians,

Keep those photos coming. As I said during the meeting, I think it would be fun to see you all doing great things worldwide with our Rotary Flag. I want to share them each week here in the eblast, but I also would like to post them on our website.

Last week I shared Pat Force, President, and CEO of Valley Credit Union, exchanging flags during a Rotary trip to Guatemala.

This week Ryan Collier, the big cheese at Collier Law, shared some pictures of his last trip to the San Juan Islands as a member of the International Fellowship of Yachting Rotarians. (Who knew?) Ryan joined IFYR through the Seattle Rotary Mariners chapter, the nearest to Salem. They are connected to the Rotary Club that meets at the Seattle Yacht Club. Holly and Ryan fly the “colors” whenever they are cruising the San Juans or the Canadian Gulf Islands. Way to go, Ryan, I love the Rotary spirit.

Who can top Ryan this week? I want to see your Rotary Flag pictures. If you would like a club flag, come and see me after a meeting.
Have a great week, and see you Wednesday.

David
