April 17th – Learn about the charitable giving of the Maps Community Foundation

In 2012, the Maps Community Foundation was formed to support financial literacy and community vibrancy initiatives in Marion and Polk Counties.  Key impact areas include Education, Economic Empowerment and Vibrant Communities. The Foundation now has an endowment of approximately $2.8 million and an annual giving budget of nearly $500,000. Maps Credit Union invests a penny into the Foundation each time a member uses their Free Community Checking debit card.

We will be hearing about the work of the Foundation from Executive Director Kim Hanson, who has held the position since January 2020. Kim has lived in Salem since 2004 working with many nonprofit and philanthropic organizations prior to leading the work of the Maps Community Foundation.

President’s Message

Service Above Self

What an incredible joy it was to attend the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce First Citizen Award Banquet and see our own Past President Barry Nelson receive a Distinguished Service Award! Many congratulations, Barry!! We are so grateful for you and so proud of you! The number of Rotarians in the room, including those who had also been award recipients in past years, and the very kind words the emcees said about the Rotary Club of Salem, really spoke volumes about all of you and the impact you have on our community. Well done, all!

I’m so excited about this week’s program in which we will hear from Maps Community Foundation Director Kim Hanson! Kim is a great leader with a wonderful vision and a smile that lights up a whole room! Thank you, Program Chair Jenn Columbus, for putting this together!

I look forward to seeing you all Wednesday!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Kindly,

President Alison Kelley
